This Dog Kept His Owner Warm For 20 Hours While He Lay Paralyzed In The Snow

By

This dog's amazing act of bravery is having people around the world calling her a hero. A man named Bob was at home in Michigan on New Year's Eve watching football with his dog, Kelsey, when he decided to go get a log for the fire.It was around 10:30 p.m., and he was looking forward to watching the holiday programming. He ran outside in his pajamas and slippers, but after 15 feet, he fell on the ice, leaving him paralyzed.

He cried out for help, but his closest neighbor lives a quarter of a mile away.Thankfully, his Golden Retriever, Kelsey heard his shouts and came out to assist him in any way possible. She laid on top of him, keeping him warm from the bitter, 24 degree weather. While he lay motionless in the snow for over 20 hours, she continued to lick his face, keeping him conscious.Bob told the McLaren Hospital:

By morning my voice was gone and I couldn’t yell for help, but Kelsey didn’t stop barking... She was letting out this screeching howl that alerted my neighbor. He found me at 6:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

The man was rushed to the hospital where he received emergency surgery. His body temperature was critically low and he suffered from hypothermia, but he did not have frostbite, most likely thanks to Kelsey's efforts.

They repaired the herniated disks in his spine which had left his legs paralyzed. Thanks to the surgery and future physical therapy efforts, he will most likely regain his ability to walk.None of that would be possible, however, if it weren't for the incredible efforts of his faithful dog.

Kelsey kept me warm, alert, and never stopped barking for help. Dr. Colen saved my life and ability to move. They are truly heroes and I will be eternally grateful.
