The French animal rescue association, 30 Millions d'Amis, intervened in a nightmarish situation in Somme, France, accompanied by law enforcement and the local mayor, to rescue two dogs kept in deplorable conditions in April.

Dehydrated, malnourished and anemic, Dixie and Lilie were finally discovered thanks to their worried neighbors. Only a few days later, it may have been too late for the pair. Dixie is a nine-year-old female Rottweiler and Lily is a one-year-old female spaniel.Flore, an investigator for the Fondation 30 Millions d'Amis, describes the situation that they found the two dogs in:

She [Dixie] was put aside in a corner of the garden as if they wanted to forget that she was there. She was really terrified when we approached her. She didn't even dare to lift her head. She is absolutely traumatized. [Lilie] was shut away in a dump where she was forced to live in excrement.

The two dogs were in critical condition and so were rushed to the hospital to receive urgent treatment. They were admitted and put on drips for four days until they regained their strength under the watchful eyes of doctors.

They are emaciated and dehydrated. The little spaniel was also hypothermic. We didn't know if she would survive even one more day.

Dixie should have weighed around forty kilos at her age, but instead, she only weighed around twenty. Lilie was also around half of the healthy weight for her age and breed, at seven kilos. The foundation pressed charges against their owners and the two dogs were then transferred to a shelter in Seine-et-Marne.As soon as the two dogs are strong enough, they will move on to foster families and be put up for adoption, ready to finally find loving forever homes and forget about their ordeal.
