Tiny Chihuahua Forced To Have Puppies For Breeder Couldn't Even Open Her Eyes In The Light

By

Brie is a tiny Chihuahua who was living in the dark in a puppy mill being forced to get pregnant over and over again so her breeder could make money from her puppies. She was found in a terrible condition when ClaireStokoe saw her picture on Facebook and fell in love, reports The Dodo.

She immediately phoned the local rescue group on Wales, who had posted the photo of Brie cowering next to a can of Heinz vegetables, not much bigger than the can.

They informed her that the puppy had come from a puppy farm in a rural area and that she was worse for wear - she had scratches all over her legs and ears.

The puppy also had trouble opening her eyes when it was even a little bit light, which indicates that in the puppy mill, she had been living in complete darkness. She had given birth to two litters of puppies, via C-Section, and this trauma had taken its toll on her little body.

Brie is a teacup Chihuahua, a breed that was deliberately designed to be small. But there are often complications in puppy mills as breeders do not give mothers good living conditions. The dogs are often inbred for the simple reason that the fast they get pregnant, the more money the breeders make. But Stokoe did not think twice about adopting the puppy who had been through so much and desperately needed a loving home. She embarked on a 600-mile round trip from her hometown of Durham, England, to Wales to fetch Brie. The woman was excited to meet her new pup, but when they met, she was shocked at the dog's state. She explained:

She was emaciated and shaking. She clung to the lady at the rescue and I wondered for a second if I could really help her. She looked so pitiful and it was really upsetting. She was crouched at the back of her little carry case, wide-eyed and scared.

But this fear seemed to evaporate in the car once Brie realized that Stokoe was there to help and comfort her. Stokoe continued:

[A]ll of a sudden she ran up my stomach and hid her face in my neck. I was dumbfounded and just sat there enjoying the feeling of her little breaths on my neck. She fell asleep and soon we were all dozing in the back of the car. She fell asleep within minutes.

The next pleasant surprise came when they arrived back home and Brie met the other family dogs,Bouddica, Dexter and Vesper, and the four immediately formed a bond. Vesper treated Brie like her own baby, cleaning and comforting her in those first moments.

With all the love and care Brie was receiving from her dog and human family, she finally started to shed the dark clouds that had been imprisoning her for months and her true personality started to shine through. Stokoe's favorite moments are when Brie is just being silly:

She does a hilarious little thing where she grabs her ears and opens her mouth really loud and makes a noise like chimps do when they laugh. It is the cutest thing I have ever seen.

Although Brie is not entirely healthy yet, she knows that she has found her forever home and family and that she will never be abused again. She even has her own soft toy, Mr. Duck Duck, and a blanket to sleep with every night. Stokoe says she in an inspiration to have around the house because the little dog's determination and strength shines through every day:

How she survived two pregnancies, the cold, the hunger and the fear I have no idea. It's inspiring.
