In Chile, a female dog was recently saved from drowning in a pool of tar, reports The Dodo. Jhonny Alquinta and his son were driving around the Salar del Carmen desert when they noticed the outline of an animal's body in a pool of tar on the roadside. They made a shocking discovery on closer inspection. A little dog was fighting for her life as she drowned in the thick substance.

The team of vets knew they needed to work fast to remove all the tar from her body, as her exposure to all the toxins could be fatal. It took them over four hours to scrub off the thick, slimy substance from every part of her exhausted body.

She was given the name Quitrán ("tar" in Espagnol), symbolising her miraculous survival from such a horrendous plight. Quitrán still needs to undergo a few examinations to make sure there won't be any future repercussions for her health.

The most shocking part of it all is that it was clear that someone had thrown her into the tar pool on purpose. Her rescuers noticed she had been tied up in a bag by her abuser which she luckily managed to escape from in time.Local authorities are currently investigating the case and are doing all they can to find out who is responsible for this horrific act of cruelty.Quitrán is still under medical supervision but she will soon be put up for adoption.
