Rescuers from French animal rescue group la Fondation 30 Millions d'Amis (the 30 Million Friends Foundation) took custody of three Yorkshire Terriers and two horses on January 11. The rescue was a long time coming with the couple, from the Somme region in northern France, being sadly well-known by the association. In October last year, they saved 15 Yorkshire Terriers from horrific conditions, where they were being bred without any regard for their health by the same couple.

The three who were saved this time were malnourished and sick, as one veterinarian sadly noted after examining the dogs:

One of the dogs is 18 years old and had tumors on all of her nipples, one as big as an orange.  [The other dog] had a tumor on her upper lip.

The two horses, a 13 year old gelding (neutered male horse) and a 9 year old mare, were also very weak. One of the dogs and the mare did not survive their ordeal, passing away shortly after the rescue. The Fondation 30 Millions d'Amishas filed charges against the couple for cruelty to animals. If you are thinking of getting a pet, please consider adopting through one of your local shelters, such as theASPCAif you are from the U.S. or theRSPCAif you live in the U.K. You can also support the amazing work these organisations do by donating to them.
