This Year's 'Ugliest' Dog Was Just Crowned - And She's More Slobbery Than Ever


The annual 'World's Ugliest Dog Contest' brings admirers from far and wide to appreciate the variety in man's best friend. This year's contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair, California on June 23 did not disappoint.

Animal owners come from all areas of the world to proudly display their unique canines and compete for the $1500 (£1,188) prize.The competition never fails to bring an extremely diverse range of dogs, and this year was no exception. The impressive winner came in the shape of Martha, a125lb Neopolitan Mastiff.

She wowed the judges with her impressive size and even bigger heart and beat hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Many of the dogs featured in the competition have been rescued from shelters, including Martha, and their stories, full of love and courage, are what really make them stand out from the crowd. While they may not be considered traditionally 'cute' by the masses, they have just as much love to give.

To win the competition, the canines are judged following very specific criteria: initial impressions, unique features, personality and the reaction of the audience.Martha's undeniable presence has won her fans all over the globe. Her jaw dropping jowls and tendency to nap on stage whenever she made an appearance made her irresistable to the adoring thousands.While the competitors in this unique competition may not be seen as traditionally 'cute' by the masses, their unique personalities, looks and talents are undeniably loveable and just go to show that all dogs deserve love.
