The incident occurred when a feud between the neighbors about fencing and the dogs reached its peak. The seven-pound dog Yorkie had escaped under the fence earlier that day and, instead of returning him home, the woman decided that she had had enough. She placed the tiny canine into the trash can on a hot, sunny day. Then, when the little dog tried to jump up and escape, she placed another trash bag on top of the container to make sure that he could not get out.

The event was recorded by another local resident's CCTV camera and when the woman realized that she had been caught in the act, roughly two hours after she trapped Bentley in the bin, she returned and let him out.Fortunately, the dog didn't suffer any injuries and has since been returned to his worried family. Amanda described how she was 'outraged' and told KHOU:
It's one thing to think she doesn't like my dog, it's another thing to think that my dog was put in a trash can for an hour or two.
