In 2012, Treya's human was tragically killed, and the poor animal's life was quickly transformed into a nightmare, reportsiHeartDogs.Treya remained chained up in front of her St. Louis, Missouri, home, abandoned for close to five years, in all weather, from freezing cold to blazing hot. The neighbors tried to come to her aid, bringing her food, but Treya seemed to have lost all trust in people.

The chain around Treya's neck got wrapped around her right front paw, and the dog, crippled by the pain, decided to chew off her foot to free herself.

In April 2017, some local firefighters got word to the rescue organization Stray Rescue of St. Louis, who rushed to send volunteers. With a lot of patience, they managed to free the canine and bring her to the shelter where she was given medical treatment.
In addition to her destroyed paw, Trey suffered from heartworm and was covered in fleas. The poor creature was also traumatized after five years in isolation. She was extremely fearful, so the volunteers had the idea to introduce her to another dog, Little Pinky, a Brussels Griffon mix.

The bond between the two animals was instant, and tanks to the help of her new friend, Treya learned little by little how to trust and enjoy life. The adorable pooch has even started wagging her tail for the first time in a long time. The path to healing is still long for Treya, but with support from Little Pinky and the volunteers at the shelter, she will be able to finally start a new life.
