This Selfless Man Drove An Abandoned Dog 1300 Miles To get Him Home For Christmas

By

When Ikea Moseley's ex-boyfriend spitefully left her dog, Zimba, at the side of the road in Ridgely, Maryland, she never thought that she'd see him ever again. Not only because he'd been abandoned, but because he was 1300 miles away from his home in Wichita, Kansas.Mosley's ex had been taking him on a trip as a travelling companion, but abandoned the poor pup when they broke up. Luckily, Zimba was found and identified, thanks to his up-to-date microchip.

However, single mom Mosley wasn't allowed to take time off work to go and collect her beloved pet. Volunteers tried to book him and a chaperone onto a flight only to be told that Zimba would not be allowed to fly.It was looking like a very sticky situation for both Zimba and his mom, who wanted her furry family member back home for Christmas after weeks apart. But right when all hope seemed lost, a heroic volunteer stepped in. Zach Holt, who used to help out at the shelter Zimba was staying at, Caroline County Humane Society, offered to drive the lost pooch all the way back home himself!

They set off on December 5, followed by fans, who had heard about the amazing story through social media. People as far away as Australia and Bosnia cheered the pair on as they posted regular updates on the CCHS Facebook page.

People along the way offered them space in their homes to rest, as well as hot meals and even paid hotel rooms to help them with their journey! Thanks to Holt's kindness, Zimba was safely back with his overjoyed mom just days after being identified.“I’m very, very thankful, like I’m like speechless, because I really can’t believe you drove all the way here,” said a grateful Mosley to her pup's selfless savior.https://www.facebook.com/CarolineCountyHumane/photos/p.10157152621050329/10157152621050329/?type=3Meanwhile, people back home in Maryland have offered to pay for Holt's electricity for a month, as well as get his well-used car serviced. The CCHS said in a Facebook post:

We can never thank Zach enough for driving all the way from Ridgely, MD to Wichita, KS to make one family’s…. and one dog’s… Christmas wish come true. There truly is no place like home.

The hero of the day himself was extremely humble, only saying that "[Zimba] is the best riding companion I’ve ever seen, he was great, he napped the entire way, everything was perfectly fine. He had no complaints.”A big well done to Zach Holt for his amazing good deed! Remember to microchip your pets and keep the information on them updated so that if the worst happens, your beloved companion can be returned to you.
