This Selfless 11-Year-Old Girl Gave Up Birthday Presents For Animal Shelter Donations

By

Most little girls would be looking forward to their birthday because of all the presents they hope will come their way. But 11-year-old Olivia Wade showed maturity beyond her years when she decided to ask for donations to her local animal shelter instead.WIFR reports that Olivia, from Oregon, Illinois, asked her friends to bring dog food, cleaning and office supplies to her birthday party in early November. Although these might seem like strange things to give a child, all became clear when she said that she was going to donate the items to Granny Rose Animal Shelter in Dixon.

"I was really happy about that," said Olivia during an interview with WIFR. "I was really happy that a lot of people came too, and I was happy that animals were getting what they needed, and that they could live longer. I love animals so I was happy that people brought things.”Although it might seem unusual, lots of kids have given up presents for themselves and instead asked for help in giving to animals in need. At Granny Rose alone, 2 other girls, Grace Bray and Abby Duke, have done the same this year!
