Zeus was in horrible condition when rescuers from AMA Animal Rescue finally found him in October 2016. He was covered in mange with bleeding patches on his skin and ears.

He had been horribly neglected and abused by his former owner who hoarded him along with 37 other animals in Queens, New York. They were living in their own urine and excrement, but Zeus was one of the worst among them.

The dog was given a medical bath to help get rid of his mange, but every touch, whether it was a hand or water, was extremely painful on his tortured skin. He also had an ear infection which had caused him to be at least partially deaf. The tiny pooch shook with fear, and rescuers weren't sure if they were going to be able to save him.
With every medical bath, we watched as parts of his skin fell into the sink revealing a frail, sickly body of bones.

But they refused to give up.Slowly, over the course of four months of treatment, love and care, Zeus blossomed. His wounds started to heal and his fur started growing back in.
