This Man Dedicated His Life To Senior Dogs No One Wanted

Months after the death of his beloved dog, Steve Greig finally decided to welcome another furry companion into his home. The man, originally from Denver, Colorado, went to the local shelter with a specific demand: to adopt the oldest dog with the smallest chance of being adopted, reports The Dodo.

That's how Steve came about adopting Eeyore, a 12-year-old Chihuahua, suffering from a heart murmur and weak knees on all four legs. The man didn't stop and now cares for 10 senior canines - one of whom belongs to his roommate and anotherto his sister. Everyday, the American waked up at 5 a.m. to prepare breakfast for all of the dogs, who each have different dietary needs.

Steve also has to carefully look after all the animals' treatments whose advanced ages came with many health problems. His weekends are equally busy, between grooming sessions and vet visits. As for walks, they are always an adventure.

Steve Greig also opened his home to other types of animals including a pet pig named Bikini, two chickens, two ducks, two pigeons, several cats, a rabbit and koi fish. The little farm is running well. Bikini and Enoch, an Irish Wolfhound, are notably the best of friends..

Steve loves all of his animals, but he has a particularly soft spot in his heart for his senior dogs. He confided:

They're just wiser animals. You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it's easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are.

According to Steve, the dogs are so calm that visitors barely know they're there. The American admits that if the 10 animals were puppies, he wouldn't have been able to take care of them. For Steve, taking care of his seniors isn't just a fun experience: it means a lot to him.

They just makes it feel like home. It's just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.

For the moment, Steve will not be adopting anymore animals, but when the next senior passes on, he will be sure to continue his missionand adopt another dog who desperately needs a forever home.
