Arron Culling and his colleague, Mark, both residents of the island, could not bear the sight of these beautiful creatures torn from their natural habitat and displayed as if they were a product on a shelf. This was not going to be their fate. The friends decided it was time to step in.On hisFacebook account, Arron wrote:
Found these at the local market, got them for 50 bucks, drove 5km up the road and let them go.

Although still a bit groggy from their journey, the two turtles managed to quickly get back out into the open sea.

Apparently, this is not the first time these two men have made a rescue like this. They have already managed to set over a dozen turtles like this free. There are seven different species of sea turtles in the world and almost all of them are in danger of extinction. In Papua New Guinea, along with the other islands in the Indonesian archipelago, they are considered local delicacies and are legally caught and killed.
