A social worker came across the six young animals and alertedPaul 'the cat guy', an American man who rescues and feeds cats on the streets, to their dangerous situation. Recognizing that the cats needed urgent care, he enlisted the help of the NYC-based rescue association,Little Wanderers.
Sadly, by the time that they arrived, it was already too late for two of Emma's siblings, and they hadn't made it. She, Cooper and Gracie, the surviving kittens, were in critical condition and were taken straight to the shelter. Little WandererstoldLove Meow:
The social worker had tried to feed them by providing wet food but the kittens were too young to eat it and could only lick the gravy.
The remaining trio were taken in by a new foster motherJoanne, who regularly welcomes cats in need and nurses them back to health. However, despite her best efforts and providing all the care she could, Emma's siblings didn't survive, and she was left alone. The kitten was dangerously weak and was taken to the ICU at the City Vet Care hospital.
She required a month of intensive care but incredibly, Emma, who weighed less than a pound when she was first found, managed to pull through. She was a true miracle. When she was finally strong enough to be discharged from the hospital, the kitten needed a new home. Luckily, Nimbus and her human Erin were also looking for a new feline companion at the same time.
When they heard about the brave little cat that had overcome so much, they knew that had found the furry friend for them. Erin describes how she "teared up" when she heard about Emma's tragic past.Since joining her new family, the kitten has blossomed and developed a great personality. She and her brother Nimbus have proved to be a wonderful, if slightly mischevious pair. She now weights 10 pounds and is perfectly healthy. Her human describes the cat's incredible transformation:
I forgot how small she was. She's a total sweetheart and a huge cuddle bug.
