Spring, the new mother, had given birth only five days before, and left to fend for herself, was in danger.Volunteers set off immediately to find the furry family. To their absolute shock, Spring was only too delighted at their arrival. After a quick sniff to check out the team, Spring was delighted to finally be rescued and jumped up at her rescuers and accepted their help.Eldad Hagar from Hope for Paws described to The Dodo:

I was expecting her to charge at us and then having to deal with that, so it was a very nice surprise.

She led them to her babies, who were lying in a makeshift den made of a cardboard box. Loreta Frankonyte, one of the volunteers, began to gain the mother's trust and after around 20 minutes slowly started to place the puppies in a carrier, ready to transport them to the shelter.Luckily, it was found that all of the dogs, despite their difficult first few days were in perfect health. The nine puppies were named: Dandelion, Jasmine, Monarch, Butterfly, Lady Bug, Caterpillar, Dragonfly, Sunshine and Roly Poly.

As soon as the puppies and their mom are strong enough they will be put up for adoption, ready to find their new families.

Tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up in shelters each year, either due to neglect, abuse or abandonment. Consider adopting before you shop, and visit your local shelters before going to a breeder. Every dog and cat deserves a fair chance at a forever home.If you live in England, you can visit the RSPCA, and if you live in the United States, you can visit the ASPCA to get more information about pets available for adoption.
