Harriet has endured an extremely difficult life. She was only three years old when she was found, along with 200 other dogs, by Humane Society International (HSI), an animal rescue organization, and rescued from a meat farm in Wonju, South Korea.However, her rescue story was far from finished when she left the confines of her cage.

The canine was flown from South Korea to the U.S.A, where she was taken in by theHumane Society of Tampa Bay, a partner of HSI. Volunteers at the shelter found that the canines were underweight and malnourished, which staff could easily treat, but the psychological scars of their ordeal were evident and much deeper.Harriet, in particular, found it extremely difficult to adjust to her new life and, when given a soft bed to sleep in for the first time in her life, didn't know what to do with it.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5xrFvGi8_Y[/embed]Staff from the center filmed the heart-wrenching moment when the poor dog began to fall asleep sat upright, as she must have always done in her cage. The dogs at the meat farm had clearly lived in such deplorable conditions that they had not even had space to fall asleep comfortably at night. They described on their Facebook page:
This video shows Harriet falling asleep standing up because she doesn't understand that she can use the bed provided for her. These dogs have been on an arduous journey and still have a long way to go, but we are hopeful that wagging tails and snuggley beds will become their norm ♥
Luckily volunteers were more than ready to help the canine on the long road to recovery ahead. They spent the rest of the day showing and explaining to the exhausted animal how to fall asleep and make the most of her comfy new bed.

Since her arrival at the shelter, Harriet has come on leaps and bounds with her rehabilitation. Once shown the love and affection she so desperately needed the dog blossomed into a sweet and friendly animal.In February, she was lucky enough and strong enough to be adopted and move on to her forever home. She is now more than happy to sleep on a comfy bed and even snuggles with her new family.
