This Brave Little Dog Just Saved His Whole Family From A Terrible Fire

Andrea A.

Capone, a Pinscher, Chihuahua and Whippet mix, distinguished himself in the most incredible way on March 15, 2017. The adorable pooch had been found 18 months earlier by Angela Fullmer, from Des Moines, Iowa, next to a high way. The American didn't hesitate one second in taking in Capone. Without knowing it, this compassionate gesture saved her whole family.

Angela, a mother to nine children, was sleeping soundly on the night of March 14, when Capone started barking with all his force. While he was normally very obedient, he refused to be quiet, despite the commands from his human, who was worried he would wake her children.

Capone ran towards the kitchen, and Angela followed him. She immediately saw that the microwave had caught on fire, and that the flames had started to spread throughout the house. The young woman immediately woke up her children and left the house before calling for help.

Capone exited after the family, once certain that they were all safe. The house was sadly reduced to cinders, but Angela and her kids were more frightened than hurt.

Thanks to the generosity of friends and family, and of strangers touched by their story, the family was able to buy a new house after spending several days in a hotel. Angela, to honor Capone's bravery, decided to nominate him for theAmerican Humane Hero Dog Awards, a ceremony which celebrates the most heroic canines of the year. The results will be announced in September 2017.
