The poor animal, used for non-stop reproduction, was abandoned when she was no longer "useful" to her breeders. Loretta likely had given birth to a litter just before being handed over to the shelter. The dog was petrified and traumatized. Kelly Reeves, president of the associationPaw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue, explained:

I’ve never met a dog so fearful. She was too afraid to walk. I had to carry her to my car, in and out of the vet and into my house. She buried her head anywhere she could and stayed flat on the floor, hoping to become invisible.

Loretta also refused to make eye contact with anyone around her. Thankfully, she was placed with a foster family who helped her open up. Kelly confided that Loretta started walking by herself, and even started wagging her tail. She concluded:

We want her to learn to feel safe in a home and around people, gain confidence and get used to being in a family situation before she’s adopted.
