Eugene Bostick may just be the coolest 80-year-old ever. After retiring 15 years ago, he began a new venture which is possibly his most impactful work yet.
Shortly after his retirement, he built his very own train to take stray dogs on small adventures around the neighbourhood and surrounding woods.
Eugene is now dedicating his life to caring for these strays who are left abandoned in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas:
People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve. So, we started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live.
I started out with my tractor. I had a little trailer and I put four or five dogs in there and took them riding. Then more dogs started to show up and I said, ‘Uh-oh! That’s not enough room!’ That’s when I came up with [the dog train].
Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited. They all come running and jump in on their own. They’re ready to go.
Eugene, you are a true hero. May the dog train continue for many more years to come.https://youtu.be/eepfRldptT8
