There were sad scenes at a dog park in California early this month after 2 huskies were found abandoned with a box of their things and a note begging them not to be separated, The Dodo writes.They were found by another visitor in Woodward Dog Park, a public dog park in Fresno, California, who had started to worry for them after spotting that they had been wondering around, alone, for over an hour. What's more, there was a box next to them filled with food, toys, and a note: "Our names are Jada (black) and Layla (brown). We are nice 1-year-old dogs. Please don’t split us up. Layla gets scared without her sister."

When the woman who found them realized what had happened, she decided to call the park's manager, Mona Ahmed, who got to the park as fast as she could. She arrived to find 2 very sad and confused young dogs, who were still waiting patiently for a family who wasn't coming back for them. To try and find out what had happened, Ahmed started to ask the park's other visitors for any information they had:
I started asking people, ‘Does anybody know how long these huskies have been here?' People told me, ‘These huskies were here at 5 o’clock.’ But now it was 8 o’clock. So these huskies have been here for three hours, running in the dog park.

She soon found out the sad truth; a woman had come in with the dogs, told passers by that she was just going to her car and would be back, but never returned. No one seemed to know who this woman was, so Jada and Layla were truly abandoned.Ahmed took the pair, who she thinks are sisters, back to her home to give them a safe place to stay for the night. Sadly, this isn't the first time she's had to do this, having taken care of 13 other dogs who've been abandoned at the park over the last decade. For her, it never gets any easier.“This makes me feel angry. This is not the way you give dogs away. All they had to do was ask for help.”

Luckily, as the owner of Fresno Furry Friends, an organization that offers spaying and neutering services, Ahmed had a large network of canine lovers at her disposal and soon enough, Layla and Jada were safely in a foster home.They settled in right away and might even be staying there, as their foster mom has completely fallen in love with them.
While it is a very difficult thing to give up a pet, there are plenty of resources for people who can't look after their furry family members anymore. Abandoning them at a park is a terrible idea, as Ahmed explained to The Dodo:
They could have jumped the fence and gotten hit by a car. There is a very busy road right in front of dog park. The speed limit is 50, but people go 65 or more.
If you find yourself in this position, please contact your vet or a local rescue organization, such as the ASPCA or the RSPCA. Their staff will be able to help you decide what to do.
