On June 23, eight dogs were saved by the French organization, Fondation 30 Millions d'Amis in Drancy, France (northeast of Paris) after they were prisoners in the blazing sun on a balcony.

Alerted by the dogs' whining, a neighbor called the organization about two adult dogs, a male and a female, as well as their six puppies, trapped in a plastic dog house.The heatwave meant the temperature inside the shelter had reached 104 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, the two adult dogs were attached on a rope only 20 inches long, meaning they couldn't even lay down.

Volunteers were immediately able to see the deplorable condition the animals were in physically, suffering from starvation and extreme dehydration. The dogs were immediately handed over to the association by police. A charge of "animal cruelty" was also filed against the owners.
