Texas Officers Save Cat on Interstate Overpass

Cats are known for their love of high perches, but one adventurous feline took this penchant for heights to an extreme level. On Friday, San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) received a 311 call concerning a cat stranded on a ledge above a local overpass. Responding to the call, Animal Care Officer Tutak and Animal Care Sgt. Flores discovered an orange cat lounging precariously close to the edge of the towering ledge.

Faced with the cat's dangerous situation, the officers approached cautiously to avoid startling it into leaping from its perilous position, according to an ACS Facebook post. Aptly named Bridges, the cat initially seemed unsure of the officers' intentions, as evidenced by its unwelcoming expression in the Facebook photos. However, Bridges eventually warmed up to the officers, allowing them to pick him up and transport him to safety.

Following the successful rescue, "stunt devil Bridges" was taken to an emergency room for examination since the officers were uncertain how long he had been without food and water. Fortunately, Bridges suffered no major medical issues, save for a possible respiratory infection. After his release from the emergency room, the feline was transferred to ACS for additional care and affection.

Kaitlan Helton, an education specialist at ACS, revealed that the agency frequently receives calls about situations similar to Bridges'. In fact, this particular week saw three incredible cat rescues, including one that required removing a manhole cover to save a cat trapped in the sewer below.

Contrary to his irritated appearance in the rescue photos, Helton explained that Bridges is a very sweet cat adjusting well to life at the shelter. "He's actually a really sweet cat. When we saw the photos of how he was on the bridge when he looked like he was a little hissy, clearly he was just really stressed," Helton told Daily Paws. "When we got him in here, he completely opened up and was a brand new cat."

Bridges may be in for even more good news, as Helton mentioned that they believe they have located his family. If all goes well, Bridges and his family will be reunited on Thursday.
