He also took the opportunity to ask the volunteers at the shelter for a special service: to help him ask Alison's hand in marriage, with the help of one of the shelter's dogs.

The volunteers immediately found the perfect canditate for the job as explains Stephanie Filer, director of development at the shelter:

We thought of Lizzie immediately. She was surrendered to animal control last month with a really bad skin condition and had lost almost all her hair. But you would never be able to tell from her personality that she’d been treated so poorly.

Fortunately, after a few more weeks of treatment, Lizzie was healthy and ready for her forever home. Connor sneaked off to the shelter to meet Lizzie himself and immediately knew she was the perfect dog for the job. When the couple arrived at the shelter last Saturday to “meet the dogs,” Hansen was immediately drawn to Lizzie — and the entire shelter staff waited eagerly to see the moment unfold.

Connor get down on one knee and pointed to the ring attached to Lizzie's collar. Alison, very overwhelmed, of course said yes!

The dog fit perfectly into the little family of Connor, Alison, and their Labrador of one year, Charlie. The marriage is set to happen in a year, and the couple are already thinking of ways to include their furry friends in the ceremony:

We’ve already joked about Lizzie being the flower girl and Charlie being the ring bearer. That would take hours and hours of training, but we’ll see if we can make it happen.
