She Is The Tiniest Little Patient Her Vets Have Ever Seen

It was a real first for this medical team.On July 17, vets at Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, a wildlife sanctuary based in Australia, announced the rescue of this little pygmy gliding possum, more commonly known as a feathertail glider. The tiny animal fell from her mother's pouch and would never have survived without the loving care of the clinic at the centre. Named Boop, she weighs less than a gram and is even smaller than a human thumb.

On the organisation's Facebook page, her caretakers explained:

After falling from her mother’s pouch, Boop luckily escaped any injury and will now receive round-the-clock care by a specialised wildlife carer until she is ready to return to the wild.

When they reach adulthood, feathertail gliders are roughly seven centimetres long and weigh about fifteen grams. This marsupial can only be found in eastern Australia and latches onto branches using their claws and paws. They mainly feed off nectar, pollen and small insects.
