It was super nice out so I decided to sit on the front patio while they go do their business, until I noticed my border collie Ophelia sniff a piece of meat that was in the yard.

Alerted by light reflecting of the metal, the young woman ran over to stop her dogs from eating the sausages. She scooped them up and posted an urgent message on Facebook to warn her neighbors.

Im not sure where to post this but I took my fur babies out for a peee this morning and happened to notice some hot dog in my yard, which is very unusual. So i went up to the pieces and it turns out theres a bunch of razor blades in each piece.... im located on 6th & queen so anyone around me, PLEASE CHECK YOUR YARDS!!!!Posted by Emma Medeiros on Tuesday, 23 May 2017

Her message quickly went viral and was shared more than 9,000 times. "Check your yards!" urged the young woman who also contacted the police and the Regina Humane Society (RHS), the main animal defense association in the area.

Bill Thorn, public relations director at RHS, indicatedto local press that the organization received reports like this once or twice a year, but that it was rare that an animal actually died after ingesting these malicious traps. However, the injuries caused can be extremely serious and the association warns all pet owners to be vigilant and always verify what their pets are tempted to eat during a walk.

The identity of the person responsible is still unknown. Mendeiros is still shocked by the discovery."It astounds me that someone would want to hurt my precious dogs, or any dog in that manner. I am definitely going to come out with my dogs every minute of the day now,"she concluded.
