Rescue Shelter Is Giving Cookie All The Love And Care She Deserves After Being Abandoned By Her Family

By

Cookie, a senior cocker spaniel, was foundas a stray in California, alongside a one-year-old labrador. TheSan Bernadino shelter took the dogs in and discovered they belonged to the same family. Thankfully, their humans were on their way to come and claim the dogs. But when Cookie's parents arrived, they took the young Lab and left Cookie behind. She howled as they simply drove off without her, without looking back. The shelter posted a photo of the poor, old dog, who was completely brokenhearted by her cruel abandonment.

Luckily, OC Small Paws from Souther Utah, made it their business to find Cookie a foster home. And within two days, she was in the loving hands of a wonderful foster mum.

But although Cookie was now happy with her new foster mother, when she had a check up at the vets, they discovered something awful. Poor Cookie, who is about 10 years old, had around 12 tumours in her reproductive organs. She needed surgery fast. Thankfully, the vets managed to remove all but one of the tumours.

Considering Cookie's health problems, the shelter decided to keep her with them and give her all the love and care in the world. The staff announced on Facebook:

We have made the collective decision to not adopt her out. She will stay under the care of the rescue for the rest of her life. She also will be under the care of our vet who has already done her first surgery.

Cookie is now awaiting her second surgery, and then hopefully she will be on the mend in no time. We are confident that she will be happier than ever surrounded by all the amazing staff at the shelter who want to keep her as happy, comfortable and healthy as possible.
