Heavy flooding in the Thai capital of Bangkok during typhoon season brought parts of the city to a standstill in late September. Many people's homes and businesses were inundated as a record level of rain poured.25-year-oldWeeraphon Sukudom was part of a squad of soldiers deployed to help those affected. The group was searching through a flooded garage when suddenly, they saw a tiny shape in the water. It was a puppy, only 2 days old, lying on his back, apparently dead.

According to the soldiers, the little thing had already turned blue, after floating away from his stronger brothers and sisters. It could have been where he took his final breaths. But Sukudom leapt into action, scooping the puppy up and lying him on his back on a table. He started to give the puppy a heart massage and CPR, testing out skills that he had learned years before but never used. For 3 tense minutes, it looked like the little guy was a goner. But Sukudom didn't give up hope and continued to treat the puppy.

It's very lucky we found him in time. It's like a miracle he's alive now. I'll look after him and feed him to get his strength back.
