Last March, two people were arrested in a hardware store in Texas, USA, for changing the pricing tickets on products. However, as they were being arrested, one of the accused alerted officers to the fact that they had a puppy in their car, parked just outside.

Police officers searched the vehicle and found the dog in an extremely lethargic state. Upon inspection of the inside of the car, they found numerous examples of drug paraphernalia, and rapidly realized that the animal had overdosed on heroin and was seriously unwell.Police contacted the local Carrollton pound, who collected the dog and took him straight to theNorth Texas Emergency Pet Clinic. According to vets, incidents like these are not at all isolated, and happen all too often.

However, this meant that the medical professionals on site knew exactly how to deal with the emergency, and were able to save the lucky dog's life. The pup has since been renamed 'Lucky' after his miraculous recovery.Stacie Fowler, one of the veterinarians that worked on the Chihuahua explained to The Dodo:
We administered a dose of a medication called Narcan that is a reversal for opioid overdose. He responded very positively with improved mentation (more alert) and improved breathing and heart rate. After about 24 hours, Lucky had returned to normal. He had a few fleas but otherwise seemed healthy.

Once the effects of the drug started to wear off, Lucky's wonderful personality began to shine through and he charmed everyone that met him.As soon as the little dog was healthy enough to be put up for adoption, numerous families offered to welcome the animal into their homes.The shelter had so many offers that they eventually decided to organize a lottery, to choose who would be fortunate enough to take the pup home. All the prospective families met Lucky before the final draw, including a little girl and her grandparents.

The child immediately fell in love with the Chihuahua, and the pair bonded straight away.Sadly, she was not lucky enough to win the lottery, but after seeing the two together, the winner decided not to separate the dog from his new best friend. He gave his winning ticket to the little girl and her grandparents, and left Lucky to his new forever home.
