On September 19, Mexico was shaken by an enormous earthquake, which hit 7.1 on the Richter scale. The deadliest earthquake to hit the country in over 30 years, it has left at least 300 people dead and destroyed several towns and cities, including the capital, Mexico City. The country had already suffered another earthquake further south on September 7.

Volunteers, professionals and ordinary citizens alike, rushed to start looking through the ruins for survivors, many of whom were trapped under the rubble. In Mexico City, mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said that buildings were destroyed in 44 areas.But despite the devastation, there were some rays of hope as people started to be found alive in the ruins. Animals too were found, much to the joy of their distraught families. One of these lucky creatures, a Golden Retriever, was found on September 20.

The rescue was met with a huge round of applause, seen in a video posted to Twitter, as the pooch was pulled, frightened but apparently unharmed, from a pile of concrete that was once their home. This little 'miracle' has been seen as a sign of hope by a country left to cope with such a terrible catastrophe, as well as people in other countries devastated by the bleaker reports.Images from the video quickly made their way around the world and currently has been liked over 36,000 times, with many in the comments thanking the rescuers for their bravery.

Last week's earthquake took place on the 32nd anniversary of the earthquake of 1985, which killed over 5,000 people. Many are still missing.As is the case in many disasters, both natural and man-made, humans aren't the only ones sent to search through the rubble. Frida, a 6-year-old Labrador, has been thanked by Mexico's president, Enrique Peña Nieto, on Twitter after doing her part in the search and rescue efforts.
