They are remarkably similar: Chrissy says that when Julia was a baby, she would smell her mother's neck because she couldn't hear her. And when Chrissy held Walter for the first time:
[H]e did almost the same exact thing. I remember just looking at him and I just - I knew that he was meant to be ours.
Now the pair are inseparable. Julia's mother, Chrissy, reveals that Walter will patiently wait for Julia to finish her homework...

So far he has mastered the essentials - "water", "food" and "sit".Chrissytells the Pasadena Humane Society that she hopes their beautiful story "will encourage others to adopt and love their pets a little more. These two are my loves, and they have taught me that love defines all."
