This mange-infested dog was wandering the streets in Texas when he was found. It was thought thePitbull, called Maverick, would not make it out alive. But this brave boy wasn't going to give up without a fight...
When he was brought into theMontgomery Animal Control, the director of the shelter said it was the worst case she had ever seen. Despite being used to seeing dogs in terrible states coming into her shelter, Minda Ema said she would never forget Maverick. She wrote onFacebook:
He was one of the saddest dogs I've ever seen, and without doubt the most in need of care.
Having seen his photo on Facebook, the DeForge family immediately offered to foster care the poor dog. Whilst waiting for his forever home, Maverick ison the mend in his new foster home surrounded by loving humans and seven other dogs. Jessica DeForge, his foster mummy, toldBarkPost:
My ideal home for him will be one full of love, that will never give up on him. Can you imagine if we never gave the Mavericks of the world a chance? We would all be missing out on knowing some of the most amazing creatures.
Whilst the dog's mange is still very painful, he will hopefully make a full recovery within a few months and then be put up for adoption. For now, he is in the best hands with Jessica and her husband. They're helping him learn how to eat normally and protecting his sore skin with t-shirts. He is no longer contagious to humans or dogs, so is enjoying lots of cuddles!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEMwT7H_e4cYou can keep up to date with Maverick's recovery by following hisFacebook page.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOZLjGXGJM4
