This little black dog called Polo tragically lost his life saving a 8-month-old baby from a fire ravaging their house in Baltimore in the US.

On the day of the incident, the baby's mother Erika Poremski was out of the house for a few minutes looking for something in the car, leaving her daughter Viviana home alone with Polo. Upon her return, the house was up in flames.
Erika tried to save her daughter and dog from the second floor of the house, but couldn't get inside due to the strength of the fire. The firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and discovered something truly moving once the fire was out: Polo had sacrificed his own life for the baby, throwing himself upon her like a shield.

Thanks to the 6-year-old dog, the little girl made it out alive. Her mother told the local television network WBaltv in a state of shock:
She only had burns on her side because of [what Polo did]. He stayed with her the whole time in the bedroom and wouldn't even come downstairs to get out the door.

Though the baby's condition remains precarious due to the many burns she suffered, her life is not in danger. Sadly, the dog didn't survive the tragic incident.
[Polo] was my first baby and now I lost him. And I'm just praying I don't lose [my daughter]. She's all I have and it just happened so fast.

Polo's incredibly heroic act shows once more that dogs will do absolutely anything, even sacrificing their own lives, to protect their beloved humans.
