Dog Covered With Ticks Is Saved By Medical Team In South Africa

By

When organisationCommunity Lead Animal Welfare(CLAW) found Belle, she was in a horrifying state. Covered with bumps, she didn't even look like a dog anymore. It turns out these bumps were in fact ticks, a common issue, but because she hadn't been treated, they had gotten out of control.

The ticks, who had gathered mainly around her eyes and ears, had drained her of so much blood that she had become severely anaemic and sadly no longer had the strength to walk. CLAW volunteers immediately took her to the veterinary clinic as it was clear she was in urgent need of medical attention.

With her case being so severe, it was too risky to remove one tick at a time due to the amount of blood she would lose. This meant they had to get creative and think of an alternative solution, and quick!

They decided to use strong anti-parasitic drugs to paralyse the ticks, causing them to hopefully fall of Belle and die. Fortunately, their quick thinking and creativity paid off! However, Belle was far from being cured. The team had to work around the clock to reverse the damage to her poor body. Being so malnourished, she had to take in extra nutrients to restore her health.Soon enough, she began to show signs of recovery with her health improving drastically. Pictures of Belle were posted by CLAW and now she has a new home after a woman saw her and immediately knew she was the dog for her. She is now fully recovered and living in her forever home where she will never be neglected again.
