The latest scandal causing outrage amongst animal rights activists happened on October 10in Ardennes, France. A beaten cowwas abandoned in a parking lot where there was a livestock market. The animal's two legs were fractured and he had been lying on the ground for 24 hours before locals called to report the incident. At the end of the next day a veterinarian was sent to euthanise the cattle and take him out of his misery.

According to the local news, "the tendons and muscles of the animal's back legs were completely destroyed".The cattle farmer, seeing that his bovinewas paralysed, preferred to leave him to die rather than taking him home to treat his wounds, causing him nearlytwo days of intolerable suffering.

Animal protection associations quickly protested their indignation. On their Facebook page, the French association L214 denounced the "scandal" and made it known that they will be pressing charges of animal cruelty. The association Lisa also announced that they are taking measures against the cattle farmer.A case has been opened to determine the exact circumstances in which the animal was injured and to prove the owner neglected his responsibilities in alerting a veterinarian. There are thousands of other animals who, like this cow, are considered merchandise instead of living beings, and who experience the hell that is livestock farming and slaughterhouses every year. The association L214 encourages people to opt for a vegetarian diet in order to reduce animal suffering. In order to learn more about a vegan lifestyle, visit The Vegan Society.
