Dory, a 9-year-old retired racing Greyhound, spent a month by her human's body after they died at their house in Texas, reportsThe Dodo. Nobody realized that her only caregiver was dead for weeks until someone came by the house and discovered them. She was finally taken toHarris County Animal Shelter, still stressed and devastated by her ordeal.

Dory spent several days at the shelter while people tried to find a relation of her old owner to take her in. Sadly, there was no one, so she was placed withGreyhound Pets of America(GPA Houston), and put into foster care.

Despite her ordeal, Dory was still healthy, although a little thin.Arden Tucker, GPA's president, told The Dodo:

The first couple of days were a bit stressful, but she has now settled in and is blossoming. Like all greyhounds, she loves to sleep and can't get enough of relaxing on the sofa or on the deck in the sun.

After several weeks at her foster home, Dory has put on weight and gained confidence. She gets on very well with the other Greyhounds in her new home and loves to play with them. Arden continued:

I really believe she knows that she is safe again after her traumatic experiences of the past few weeks.
