"We have named him Phoenix...He obviously is pretty resilient."
The adjective of choice of Stacey Coventry, Director of Public Relations at the Bangor Humane Society in Maine, clearly best fits this magnificent 6-month-old pup, who was the victim of the unparalleled cruelty of his former owner.

An enquiry began when witnesses saw the man driving his lorry with his dog attached behind it, dragging the poor animal across the tarmac.
Just after receiving this horrifying news, the police went to the owner's home. There they found a large amount of drugs and drug equipment. They arrested the man and took little Phoenix into their care.

After the frankly inhumane treatment that his master put him through, the young Pit Bull was covered in injuries: he had scratches all over his thorax and the padding on his paws had all but worn away. But despite his terrible state, Stacey Coventry confirms:
He came in very sweet and affectionate considering what he's been through.
The young Pit Bull cross has since been slowly recovering at the Humane Society shelter in Bangor. The vets bandaged up his four paws to speed up the healing process. The staff at the shelter are doing all they can to shower him with the love and affection he's been missing.

Phoenix's story went viral because of the extreme cruelty of his case. The staff at the shelter have since received numerous inquiries about adopting the adorable pup. But the shelter want to keep him a little longer so they can be sure that his physical and psychological health are steady.
His future foster home will be chosen with extra special care by the vets and staff at the shelter. The shelter's director reiterates:
[We] will be working with our animal control partners to find a caring home where the owners have been properly vetted.
