Malibu is a sweet Pit bull who was abandoned at a kill shelter in California, before Christine Smith started working with her on training and leash walking. Her foster mom told The Dodo:
We knew the first night she was home, as we couldn't imagine life without her.

The family was so happy to have their new pet at home with them and took her for walks every day. However, Christine started to notice a disturbing trend - people were afraid of the pup because she was a Pit bull, and she continued:
Every time I walked Malibu, we would experience people crossing to the other side of the street to avoid us. Small dog owners would pick up their dogs off the ground cradling them close, mothers would pull their children to the side with a death grip, all the while eyes focused on Malibu's every move. This broke my heart, knowing what a loving dog she is. I knew I had to try to change people's perception.

So Christine thought of a creative way to make her sweet dog seem less scary to people whodidn't know her. She started dressing Malibu up in the cutest outfits and accessories, and the result was astounding:
People would smile when they looked at her. They would ask questions, what breed is she, how old is she, or just comment on how cute she was.

This gave Christine the opportunity to open a dialogue with strangers regarding her dog's behavior and even to educate some people on the fact that not all Pitties are aggressive - it's all about how they're raised. Malibu became so well-known for her cute bandanas that she got her own Instagram account - with 22k followers - and has become a sweet ambassador for breed discrimination and adoption promotion. Christine continued:
She is often asked to model for companies, however, we choose to only work with people who promote rescue and adoption and who give back a percentage to shelters and or rescues.
