In January, a 34-year-old woman was sentenced to prison in Normandy, in the North of France, for acts of cruelty to animals, including killing and abandonment. In total, she was found guilty of eight infractions between October 2014 and May 2016. But that was before the final act of cruelty, committed on May 22 last year.On this day, she illegally entered a neighbor's home, picked up her dog, a small Bichon, and took him home with her. When the police arrived, she threatened to decapitate the animal before throwing him out of the second-floor window. The pup did not die immediately, but was in so much pain and so severely injured, that he had to be euthanized.

In May 2015, the criminal had already gotten rid of her own Jack Russell by abandoning him in a dumpster - it was a miracle that this pup made it out alive.During the process, a specialist described the woman as "a marginalized person in a downward social spiral" with a "chaotic tendency", but "not mentally ill".She was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment and a fine of $770 to a local animal shelter, as well as another fine of $1065 to her neighbor, for the loss of her dog. But this money can never take away the pain of losing a loyal companion and furry best friend.
