British artist, Martin Usborne, specializes in animal photography and dogs are very close to his heart. In 2014, he photographed a series of works particularly touching. It shows dogs abandoned in cars. The Silence of Dogs in Cars is a project showing dogs waiting for the return of their humans, who are everything for the dogs. Naturally, none of these dogs were truly abandoned, but for the sake of the project they were left in cars alone in order to show the painful and worrying looks that symbolize a dog's pain.As well as exposing the pain dogs feel in being abandoned, Usborne also faced his own anguish when it comes to abandonment. The photographer explained on his website:
I was once left in a car at a young age. I don’t know when or where or for how long, possibly at the age of four, perhaps outside a supermarket, probably for fifteen minutes only. The details don’t matter. The point is that I wondered if anyone would come back. The fear I felt was strong: in a child’s mind it is possible to be alone forever. Around the same age I began to feel a deep affinity with animals – in particular their plight at the hands of humans.
